Govern

Great governance is at the heart of charities and trustees are at the heart of great governance. We work to help charities have great governance and help people be great trustees.

Our govern mission

Help people to understand the trustee role

We offer affordable training, our Being a great trustee programme, for first time trustees to learn about the role; for experienced trustees to refresh their knowledge; and for those looking to volunteer as a trustee to get ready before stepping into the role.

Help trustees grow and develop

We run Trustees Together, a network and community of practice, for trustees to come together, learn from each other and provide mutual support. We are creating a peer mentoring support initiative for first time charity trustees, chairs and treasurers.

Help charity boards - trustee teams - to be their best

We work with north east charity boards - trustee teams - to have great governance. We help trustee teams to review and reflect on their performance, make plans to be even better and take action.

Think and work strategically with others

We collaborate with north east infrastructure organisations, funders, trustees, chairs, chief officers and others in the social leadership ecosystem to develop a strategic framework for north east charities to have great governance and to understand the governance ecosystem in our region.

Tackle the lack of diversity in trusteeship

We collaborate with other people and organisations to tackle lack of diversity in charity trustees. We work to encourage and support more young people, people from BME communities, people with disabilities and others from underrepresented groups to become trustees, for our region’s trustees to be more diverse.

Create and share frameworks and tools

We create frameworks and tools to help trustees, trustee teams and charities to be their very best.
