Abu Shama

My career has been shaped by a strong commitment to supporting communities and addressing the inequalities that can affect people’s health, opportunities and quality of life. Working in the social enterprise and charity sector has given me the opportunity to lead programmes, build partnerships and work alongside communities to turn ideas into practical, lasting change.

What I value most about my work is bringing people together. I enjoy listening to different perspectives, building trusted relationships and creating opportunities for communities to have a genuine voice in decisions that affect them. I have worked with charities, social enterprises, local authorities, health organisations and community groups, often bringing different partners together around a shared purpose.

Volunteering has been equally important to me. It has allowed me to stay connected to communities, understand different experiences and contribute my time and skills to causes that matter. It has also reminded me that meaningful change is often built through small, consistent actions and strong relationships.

Across both my work and volunteering, I have developed a passion for supporting others, developing future leaders and creating opportunities for people to thrive. I hope to continue using my experience, networks and energy to make a positive difference to communities and systems.
